Getting Great Data: Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis

Getting Great Data: Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis

Description

Date: 15th November 2017

Location: University of Derby, Kedleston Road

This interactive workshop is ideal for student and staff researchers across all levels. Participants will be introduced to the epistemology that underpins Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), discuss IPA interview schedule design, review the stages involved in analysis, and have time to work through transcripts at a level ‘beyond description’. Participants can bring their own data with them or work with a provided sample. Participants will also learn more about taking manuscripts from university submissions to publications and gain insight into hallmarks a PhD examiner looks for in an IPA at level 8.

Learning Objectives and Aims:

  • To be able to position IPA work epistemologically for academic purposes

  • To gain insight into drafting IPA-friendly interview schedules

  • To actively work to interpret beyond description with real data
